CineStories and Team Kubota have been in Bend, Oregon filming the DVD series How To Photoshop Everyone. This isn’t your standard Photoshop training DVD. Written and directed by Ross Hockrow, produced by Jeff Medford, and starring Kevin Kubota, it is written, filmed and edited like a feature film. Like any feature narrative, it has characters, it has a plot line, and it has a story flow. This is a comedic story about the journey of a young female photographer who needs to learn How To Photoshop Everyone. Along her journey she encounters several photoshop experts, all played by Kevin Kubota. This 2 hour film is as funny and entertaining as it is packed with information to take you from the most basic steps of Photoshop, to the most complex tasks. We believe the best way to learn and retain information is to have fun while learning. This DVD raises the bar for photography education.

I love when people play the desert island game. They ask, “If you were trapped on a desert island for the rest of your life and you could only have one food forever, what would it be? Well, after I answer confidently that peanut butter and jelly could satisfy my cravings and nutritional needs until death, I got to thinking… what lens/camera combo would I want to film this escapade of insanity?
I’ve heard a lot of people say the 7D with the 24-70 2.8 Cannon L-Series, but for cinema I’m not so sure. Sure it would be nice to have a focal range to select from but I do have legs. I can walk closer or further from my subject. So now that I realized I can walk I think I have the perfect combo: L-Series 50 1.2 with the 5D.
“Why,” you ask? Well, first off the 5D is a far superior camera when it comes to depth of field and low light. Secondly, the 50 mm 1.2 is the most versatile prime lens in all of the land. I’ve found (from filming an entire feature film and several other major projects) that the 50 can double as a wide-angle lens, and a decent close-up lens. Being that it has the ability to open up to 1.2 and it’s on the 5D, you’ll get amazing fall-off with any shot, but it also has the sharpness to hold up when trying to show off your wide-angle skills.
So how do we translate this to reality?
Okay, so forget the desert island game. Imagine you see the rest of the world jumping on the DSLR bandwagon. You have a budget of 4000 and don’t know how to spend it. Let me help you.
